APPLE CRUMBLE
APPLE CRUMBLE IS A COMBINATION OF PIE AND BROWN BETTY AND CAN BE PREPARED IN ONLY 15 MINUTES. IT CAN BE MADE IN A 9" PIE PLATE, IN SMALL RAMEKINS OR IN A FLAT OVEN PROOF DISH.
List of Ingredients
- 4 LARGE TART APPLES, PEELED AND SLICED
- 1 TABLESPOON ORANGE JUICE
- ******************************************************************************
- 1/4 CUP FLOUR
- 1/4 CUP OLD FASHIONED OR QUICK OATMEAL, UNCOOKED
- 1/3 CUP FIRMLY PACKED DARK BROWN SUGAR
- 1/2 TEASPOON GROUND CINNAMON
- 1/4 TEASPOON FRESHLY GRATED NUTMEG
- 2 1/2 TABLESPOONS SWEET BUTTER, SOFTENED
- NONFAT OR LOW FAT VANILLA FROZEN YOGURT, OR LOW FAT VANILLA ICE CREAM
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 375°.
- LIGHTLY COAT PIE PLATE OR INDIVIDUAL DISHES WITH A NONSTICK COOKING SPRAY. PLACE APPLES IN PREPARED DISH AND SPRINKLE WITH ORANGE JUICE. SET ASIDE.
- IN A FOOD PROCESSOR OR BY HAND MIX TOGETHER FLOUR, OATMEAL, BROWN SUGAR, CINNAMON, NUTMEG AND BUTTER UNTIL JUST CRUMBLY BUT NOT OVERPROCESSED. SPRINKLE OVER APPLES.
- BAKE 40 TO 50 MINUTES UNTIL TOP IS GOLDEN AND APPLES ARE TENDER.
- ( SMALLER DISHES WILL ONLY TAKE 35 TO 40 MINUTES. SERVE WARM, TOPPED WITH VANILLA FROZEN YOGURT.
- VARIATIONS: PEACHES, PITTED PLUMS OR BERRIES CAN BE SUBSTITUTED FOR APPLES.
- IN A HURRY, SUBSTITUTE FROZEN PEACHES OR BERRIES OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH THAWED AND DRAINED.
