    APPLE CRUMBLE IS A COMBINATION OF PIE AND BROWN BETTY AND CAN BE PREPARED IN ONLY 15 MINUTES. IT CAN BE MADE IN A 9" PIE PLATE, IN SMALL RAMEKINS OR IN A FLAT OVEN PROOF DISH.


    List of Ingredients


    • 4 LARGE TART APPLES, PEELED AND SLICED
    • 1 TABLESPOON ORANGE JUICE
    • ******************************************************************************
    • 1/4 CUP FLOUR
    • 1/4 CUP OLD FASHIONED OR QUICK OATMEAL, UNCOOKED
    • 1/3 CUP FIRMLY PACKED DARK BROWN SUGAR
    • 1/2 TEASPOON GROUND CINNAMON
    • 1/4 TEASPOON FRESHLY GRATED NUTMEG
    • 2 1/2 TABLESPOONS SWEET BUTTER, SOFTENED
    • NONFAT OR LOW FAT VANILLA FROZEN YOGURT, OR LOW FAT VANILLA ICE CREAM


    Instructions


    1. PREHEAT OVEN TO 375°.
    2. LIGHTLY COAT PIE PLATE OR INDIVIDUAL DISHES WITH A NONSTICK COOKING SPRAY. PLACE APPLES IN PREPARED DISH AND SPRINKLE WITH ORANGE JUICE. SET ASIDE.
    3. IN A FOOD PROCESSOR OR BY HAND MIX TOGETHER FLOUR, OATMEAL, BROWN SUGAR, CINNAMON, NUTMEG AND BUTTER UNTIL JUST CRUMBLY BUT NOT OVERPROCESSED. SPRINKLE OVER APPLES.
    4. BAKE 40 TO 50 MINUTES UNTIL TOP IS GOLDEN AND APPLES ARE TENDER.
    5. ( SMALLER DISHES WILL ONLY TAKE 35 TO 40 MINUTES. SERVE WARM, TOPPED WITH VANILLA FROZEN YOGURT.
    6. VARIATIONS: PEACHES, PITTED PLUMS OR BERRIES CAN BE SUBSTITUTED FOR APPLES.
    7. IN A HURRY, SUBSTITUTE FROZEN PEACHES OR BERRIES OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH THAWED AND DRAINED.
