HOMESTYLE MACARONI AND CHEESE
List of Ingredients
- 7 OUNCES ELBOW MACARONI COOKED AL DENTE AND DRAINED
- 1/4 CUP BUTTER
- 3 TABLESPOONS FLOUR
- 2 CUPS MILK
- 8 OUNCE PACKAGE SOFTENED CREAM CHEESE
- 1/2 TEASPOON EACH SALT AND PEPPER
- 2 TEASPOONS DIJON MUSTARD
- 2 CUPS SHREDDED WHITE OR YELLOW CHEDDAR CHEESE
- TOPPING:
- 1 CUP DRY BREAD CRUMBS
- 2 TABLESPOONS BUTTER
- 2 TABLESPOONS CHOPPED FRESH PARSELY
- IN A SMALL BOWL, MIX TOGETHER THE TOPPING INGREDIENTS MIXING WELL TO COMBINE.
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 400°.
- IN A 3 QUART SAUCEPAN OVER MEDIUM HEAT, MELT BUTTER AND STIR IN FLOUR. COOK FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE OR UNTIL MIXTURE IS SMOOTH AND BUBBLY, STIRRING OCCASIONALLY.
- ADD MILK, CREAM CHEESE, SALT, PEPPER AND MUSTARD. CONTINUE COOKING UNTIL SAUCE IS THICKENED. ADD COOKED MACARONI AND CHEESE, MIXING TO COMBINE.
- POUR INTO A 2 QUART CASSEROLE DISH. SPRINKLE PREPARED TOPPING OVER MACARONI AND CHEESE AND BAKE FOR 15 TO 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN AND HEATED THROUGH.
