    List of Ingredients


    • 1/4 CUP BUTTER SOFTENEDD
    • 1 CUP FIRMLY PACKED LIGHT BROWN SUGAR
    • 2 EGGS
    • 2 CUPS FLOUR
    • 1 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
    • 14 TEASPOON SALT
    • 1/2 TEASPOON GRATED LEMON RIND
    • 1 TEASPOON GROUND CINNAMON
    • 1/4 TEASPOON GROUND NUTMEG, OPTIONAL
    • 1 LARGE APPLE, PARED, CORED AND GRATED, 1 CUP
    • 1/2 CUP BUTTERMILK
    • 3/4 CUP CHOPPED NUTS, PECANS OR WALNUTS


    Instructions


    1. PREHEAT OVEN TO 350°. GREASE AND FLOUR A 9 X 5" LOAF PAN, SET ASIDE.
    2. BEAT BUTTER UNTIL LIGHT, ADD SUGAR, BEATING WELL AT MEDIUM SPEED OF AN ELECTRIC MIXER UNTIL LIGHT AND FLUFFY.
    3. ADD EGGS, ON AT A TIME, BEATING WELL AFTER EACH ADDITION.
    4. COMBINE FLOUR, BAKING SODA, SALT, LEMON RIND, CINNAMON, NUTMEG IF USING, AND APPLE IN A BOWL, UNTIL BLENDED. ALTERNATE FLOUR MIXTURE WITH BUTTERMILK, BEGINNING AND ENDING WITH FLOUR MIXTURE. STIR IN NUTS.
    5. POUR BATTER INTO PREPARED LOAF PAN. BAKE FOR 55 TO 60 MINUTES OR UNTIL A TESTER INSERTED IN CENTER COMES OUT CLEAN.
    6. COOL BREAD IN PAN 10 MINUTES, REMOVE AND COOL ON A WIRE RACK.
    7. 1 LOAF
