- 1/4 CUP SUGAR
- 1 CUP MILK OR HEAVY CREAM
- 1 STICK CHILLED BUTTER CUT INTO PIECES
- 1/4 CUP LIGHT BROWN SUGAR
- 1/2 CUP CURRANTS
- DEVONSHIRE CREAM #1
- 1 CUP SOUR CREAM
- 2 TO 3 TABLESPOONS POWDERED SUGAR
- 1 TEASPOON VANILLA EXTRACT
- DEVONSHIRE CREAM #2
- 3 OUNCE PACKAGE SOFTENED CREAM CHEESE
- 1 TABLESPOON POWDER SUGAR
- 1/2 TEASPOON VANILLA EXTRACT
- 1/3 TO 1/2 CUP HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 400°.
- IN A BOWL SIFT FLOUR ADD SUGAR AND CURRANTS. ADD BUTTER AND RUB IN WITH YOUR FINGERS. STIR IN MILK TO FORM A STICKY DOUGH. KNEAD ON FLOURED BOARD UNTIL JUST COMBINED. FORM INTO A BALL AND FLATTEN TO ABOUT 3/4" THICK. CUT WITH ANY COOKIE CUTTER SHAPE OF YOUR CHOICE AND PLACE ON A COOKIE SHEET.
- BAKE APPROXIMATELY 12 MINUTES OR UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN. SERVE WITH CREAM.
- DEVONSHIRE CREAM # 1: BLEND IN ALL INGREDIENTS TOGETHER AND CHILL BEFORE SERVING.
- DEVONSHIRE CREAM # 2: BEAT CREAM CHEESE UNTIL LITE AND FLUFFY. BEAT IN POWDER SUGAR AND VANILLA. GRADUALLY BEAT IN ENOUGH WHIPPPING CREAM TO MAKE A MIXTURE OF SPREADING CONSISTANCY. COVER AND CHILL FROM 2 HOURS TO OVER NIGHT.
