IRISH SODA SCONES
List of Ingredients
- 1 POUND FLOUR
- 1 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
- 1 TEEASPOON CREAM OF TARTAR
- 1/2 TEASPOON SALT
- 1TABLESPOON SWEET COLD BUTTER
- 1 CUP BUTTERMILK
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 350°.
- SIFT TOGETHER THE FLOUR, BAKING SODA, CREAM OF TARTAR AND SALT INTO A LARGE BOWL. CUT IN BUTTER WITH YOUR FINGERS UNTIL COARSE CRUMBS FORM. ADD THE BUTTERMILK A LITTLE AT A TIME TO MAKE A STIFF DOUGH.
- KNEAD ON A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE FOR 2 OR 3 MINUTES. ROLL OUT TO 1/2" THICK ON FLOURED SURFACE. CUT WITH A 3" BISCUIT CUTTER AND PLACE ON A COOKIE SHEET.
- BAKE 15 MINUTES. WHEN BROWN ON TOP, TURN AND BROWN THE OTHER SIDE.
- 6 TO 8 SCONES
