STARBUCK'S DATE SCONES
List of Ingredients
- 1 1/2 CUPS FLOUR
- 1/2 CUP WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR
- 1/4 CUP BRAN
- 2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
- 1/2 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
- 1 TEASPOON SALT
- 2 TEASPOONS CINNAMON
- 1/4 CUP BROWN SUGAR
- 1/2 CUP SWEET BUTTER, CHILLED
- 1 LARGE EGG
- 2/3 CUP BUTTERMILK
- 2/3 CUP CHOPPED DATES
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 350°.
- COMBINE THE FLOUR, WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR, BRAN, BAKING POWDER, BAKING SODA, SALT CINNAMON AND THE BROWN SUGAR IN A LARGE DEEP BOWL. CUT IN THE BUTTER WITH YOUR FINGERS OR WITH A PASTRY CUTTER UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES COARSE CRUMBS. ( YOU CAN DO THIS IN A FOOD PROCESSOR IS YOU LIKE). ADD THE EGG, BUTTERMILK AND DATES MIXING JUST UNTIL COMBINED. ( DO NOT OVER WORK THE DOUGH).IF THE DOUGH SEEMS TOO STICKY TO WORK WITH ADD A COUPLE TABLESPOONS FLOUR.
- SHAPE THE DOUGH INTO A RECTANGLE ABOUT 1" THICK ON A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE. CUT INTO 12 TRIANGLES OR A 2" FLOURED BISCUIT CUTTER.
- PLACE ON AN UNGREASED BAKING SHEET AND BAKE FOR 25 MINUTES, OR UNTIL PUFFED AND LIGHTLY GOLDEN. COOL ON WIRE RACK.
