Got this recipe from Faith at Kitchen Table
2 cups flour
1 tbsp. sugar
2-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
3/4 cup warm water
Oil for frying
1. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening; stir in water until combined. Knead, adding
more flour if necessary, for 2 minutes. Let dough rest in covered bowl for 25 minutes.
2. Roll dough on lightly floured surface until 1/4 inch thick. Cut in diamond shaped pieces. 3. Pour oil to 2 inches
depth in saucepan. Heat to 400°. Add two pieces of dough at a time and cook until puffed; turn to brown other
side. Put in paper towel lined bowl to drain. Serve warm with butter, honey, cinnamon-sugar or powdered sugar.
