Upside Down Caramel Nut Cake

Caramel
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3 tbsp butter
2 tbsp water
1 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Combine in saucepan and cook over med. heat until sugar is dissolved, bring to a boil and pour into greased 9" round pan. Sprinkle nuts on top.
Cake
1 1/4 cups flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1/3 cup buttermilk or sourmilk
Combine dry ingredients. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add vanilla and eggs 1 at a time and beat a little after each addition. Sprinkle in 1/2 the flour and mix until flour is blended, add the buttermilk and mix, add the rest of the flour and mix. Scoop spoonfuls of batter over nuts and spread evenly. Bake at 350 for 35-40
min till done. Run a knife around pan and put a serving plate over the cake and turn over. Let sit for 5 min to let topping settle. Remove pan. Doubles well for 2 pans. We like it with icecream!!
