    1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    1 cup sour cream
    1 large egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 to 2 teaspoons grated orange zest
    1 cup dried cranberries
    1/4 cup or so toasted pecans

    Preheat oven to 400 F. and line 12 muffin cups with paper liners.

    In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Melt butter in a small bowl and stir together with sour cream, egg and vanilla. Stir butter mixture, along with cranberries, pecans and orange zest, into flour mixture until just combined. Divide the batter among the muffin cups and bake on middle oven rack until golden brown, and a tester comes out clean, about 20-22 minutes. Cool for a few minutes on a wire rack, and then remove and cool completely...or better still, eat while warm, slathered with apricot preserves!
