    Maple Butter Pecan Shortbread

    1/2 cup LAND O LAKES® Butter -- softened

    1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    Topping Ingredients:

    1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

    3 tablespoons pure maple syrup

    1 egg

    1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

    Heat oven to 350°F.

    Combine butter and 1/3 cup brown sugar in small mixer
    bowl.

    Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.

    Reduce speed to low; add flour. Beat, scraping bowl often, until mixture forms a dough.


    Press evenly into ungreased 8-inch square baking pan. Prick with fork. Bake for 20 minutes.


    Meanwhile, combine 1/3 cup brown sugar, maple syrup and egg in small bowl; mix well.

    Spread topping over hot, partially baked shortbread; sprinkle with pecans. Continue baking for 12 to 16 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately run knife around edges to loosen. Cool completely. Cut into bars.


    Yield: 25 bars
