Mangoes Braised in Fruit-Flavored Green
You could also experiment with other fruits, such as pears or apples, for this dish. After you're done, don't drain the remaining fruity tea liquid - it's a delicious accompaniment to the fruit.
Serves 2-4.
List of Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons canola oil
- 2 mangoes, sliced
- 1 cup Celestial Seasonings Misty Jasmine, Emerald Gardens, or Honey Lemon Ginseng green tea
- 1 piece star anise (optional)
Instructions
- To make green tea, pour hot but not boiling water over teabags and steep for five minutes. Use one teabag for every 8 ounces (1 cup) of hot water.
- Heat oil in a medium-sized pot or braising pan and saute mango slices on high heat until edges begin to brown.
- Add green tea and star anise and turn heat to medium-low.
- Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until mangoes are soft and have soaked up some tea.
- Remove star anise and serve the fruit in its remaining liquid.
