    Manifold Roast Beef

    Source of Recipe

    Lily (chaostheory888@)

    Recipe Introduction

From the kitchen -ahem GMC Suburban- of George Thomson

    List of Ingredients

Motor vehicle of your choice (must be in running condition)
Gasoline, and an up to date road map
2 large pieces of tin foil (approximately 18"x18")
A piece of light galvanized or stainless stell wire (about 6 feet long)
    Sharp knife
    2lb roast, unfrozen
    Small onion
    Pinch of salt and pepper
Pam or your choice of oil

    Recipe

Go on a road trip across Canada. Take the vehicle, the gasoline, the road map, the Pam and the knife with you. Stop somewhere in the middle of Saskatchewan and purchase the roast, an onion, some tin foil, salt and pepper, and more gasoline, if necessary. Lay out two pieces of tin foil on your hood or some other suitable horizontal space. Coat the top sheet with Pam. Place a few slices of onion near the center of the tin foil. Top with the roast, then the rest of the onion. Sprinkle salt and pepper over meat and onions. Carefully fold both layers of foil around the food and carefully seal at the top to prevent juices from leaking out. Wrap wire into a kind of net around the package, using half the wire and knots and twists. Leave the other half of the wire attached!
For this next step, it is a good idea to have let the motor of your vehicle cool down for 4 or 5 hours before you start. Find the manifold (if you don't know where it is, ask a reliable friend, relative, or service station person). By trial and error find a place along the exhaust manifold where your foil will actually touch the cast iron for at least two square inches of surface. Close to the steering gear, the air intake, the shifting mechanism or the fan belts is a very poor choice. Carefully secure the foil package onto the manifold using the other half of the wire that you used to make a mesh.
Start your vehicle, and travel more or less continuously for 3 or 4 hours, stopping the motor only briefly if absolutely necessary. Check roasting progress periodically. The aroma will tell you when it is near done.
Stop at a campsite, and being very careful not to burn yourself on hot engine parts, remove the roast from the manifold, unwrap, slice and enjoy!
