2 tablespoons water
1 cup white sugar
1 egg white
vanilla essence to taste
food colouring (optional)
Recipe
Put water and sugar in a saucepan, and boil gently for 5 minutes without stirring.
Beat egg white to a stiff froth in a basin.
Pour on the boiling syrup gradually, and beat until thick.
Add vanilla and, if you like, a little colouring.
Pour over cake.
