    Boston Baked Whole Grains

    Recipe Introduction

    Similar to Boston Baked Beans, these are a great vegetarian dish for a meal, or an excellent accompaniment instead of rice or potatoes. Makes 14 cups

    List of Ingredients

    4 C. whole buckwheat groats (or GF grain of choice)
    1 lb. bacon, cut in fourths (BL subbed chicken bacon)
    1/4 C. molasses
    1/3 C. catsup
    1/2 tsp. dry mustard
    10 C. water
    1 large onion, diced
    1/3 tsp. pepper
    2 tsp. salt

    Recipe

    In a large roaster or Dutch oven, combine grain, water, bacon, and onion. Combine remaining ingredients in bowl and pour into pan with grain. Cover and bake at 200 degrees F. for 6 hours.

    Remove cover the last 1/2 hour of baking. Add a little boiling water if mixture becomes a little dry.

    Serve hot with Tom's Bread or other GF bread or buns.

    If you do not eat pork products try adding some extra beans and a little liquid smoke in place of the bacon. Smoked Turkey would also work.
