    "Five-Spice" Marinade

    Source of Recipe

Nina Simonds, "Spices of Life" , altered slightly

    Recipe Introduction

For 2-3 pounds of Poultry, Pork, Tofu, or Vegetables.Five-spice powder is a spice blend sold in Asian markets. It usally includes star anise, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and powdered licorice root. I've used a drop of anise liquor to give a "licorice" kick. Nina likes this marinade for squash, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes.

    List of Ingredients

    1 1/2 T ginger, minced
    1 1/2 T garlic, minced
    3 T soy sauce or Bragg's
3 T rice wine or sake
    1 t toasted sesame oil
1 t dried chile flakes (optional)
1/2 T maple syrup or honey
1 t five-spice powder (or make your own!)

    Recipe

Mix together all the ingredients in a bowl.
    Marinade what you like!
