    CRUST:
    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    1/3 cup sugar
    1/4 tsp. vanilla
    1 cup flour

    FILLING:
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. vanilla

    TOPPING:
    4 cups sliced apples
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 tsp. grated orange peel
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 cup sliced almonds

    TO MAKE CRUST: Cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in vanilla. Add the flour and mix until just blended. Put dough into bottom and 1 1/2 inches up sides of 9-inch springform pan.

    TO MAKE FILLING: Beat together softened cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. Pour into crust.

    TO MAKE TOPPING: Toss together apples, sugar, peel and cinnamon. Arrange topping over filling. Sprinkle with almonds.

    BAKE: in a 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 25 minutes more.

    Let cake cool in pan before removing the side of pan. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
