    Brown Sauerkraut

    List of Ingredients




    1 quart
    water
    2 T. butter
    2 T. chopped onion
    2 heaping T. flour
    salt and pepper to taste

    Recipe



    Put sauerkraut in a large pan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Drain this water into a pan and use for the Slovak sauerkraut soup. Cover kraut with water again and bring to a boil again and let simmer for about an hour. Melt butter. Add onions and fry until light brown. Add flour and fry until medium brown. Add a little water to the flour mixture so it will be easier to combine with the kraut. Add to the kraut and let simmer to thicken.
