List of Ingredients
Wheat bread, two slices (look for a good thick variety, I use Arnold's Health Nut)
Mayonnaise (flavored, if you have it)
Salt and finely ground pepper
Romaine or greenleaf lettuce (one large leaf)
A thick slice of soft white cheese (usually fresh mozzarella or brie)
A thick slice of a large juicy tomato (may need two, side by side)
One large slice of onion (red or vidalia)
3 large slices roasted red pepper -OR-
1 large avocado, sliced into flat pieces
Alfalfa sprouts (one big handful)Recipe
Slather both slices of bread with an unhealthy dose of mayo and sprinkle both with salt and pepper. On one slice, stack:
- lettuce leaf
- cheese
- tomato slice
- onion slice
- red pepper or avocado
Add a huge handful of alfalfa sprouts and the 2nd slice of bread topside down. Push down, being careful not to expel any of the contents, then slice the sandwich in half.
Eat with a half-sour pickle or a small bowl of green olives with pimento.
