Butter Caramel Sauce

Recipe Introduction
This is the sauce that all of Granny's kids like on their cake.
List of Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 cup light cream or top milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup white corn syrup
Instructions
- Combine sugar, salt, margarine, corn syrup, and 1/2 cup of the cream in sauce pan.
- Bring to a boil and cook over low heat to 250 degrees or until a little of the mixture forms a hard ball when dropped in cold water.
- Add the remaining 1/2 cup of cream and cook to 216 degrees or until a little of the mixture forms a thread when dropped from the tip of the spoon.
- Add vanilla.
- Serve over ice cream, pudding, or plain cake.
Final Comments
Canned milk has been used in place of light cream before and has worked well.
