    List of Ingredients


    • 2 lb. beef, cut into cubes
    • 1 tsp. Worcestershire or Soy sauce
    • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
    • 1 medium onion, chopped
    • 1 or 2 bay leaves
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1 tsp. sugar
    • 1/2 tsp. paprika
    • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
    • 1/8 tsp. cloves
    • 6 carrots, sliced
    • 4 potatoes, cubed
    • Gravy


    Instructions


    1. In Dutch oven, thoroughly brown meat in 2 Tbsp. hot oil, turning often.
    2. Add 2 cups hot water and next 9 ingredients.
    3. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
    4. Remove bay leaves.
    5. Add vegetables.
    6. Cover and cook 30 to 45 minutes or till vegetables are tender.
    7. Serves 6 to 8.
    8. For gravy: Skim most of fat from liquid. Measure 1 3/4 cup liquid.
    9. Combine 1/4 cup water and 2 Tbsp. flour till smooth.
    10. Stir slowly into hot liquid.
    11. Cook and stir till bubbly, about 3 minutes.
