WARNING: Portions may be larger than they appear
When you're watching your weight -- but the kids are begging for McDonald's -- you choose one of the lower-calorie items on the menu. But when we stopped at 60 fast-food chains (Wendy's, Burger King, McDonald's and Taco Bell) in six states, here's what we discovered: These restaurants may be supersizing your meals without your permission.

Chili con extra: Wendy's chili -- popular with calorie counters -- is supposed to be eight ounces and 200 calories. But all of our samples brought an extra two to four ounces (and 50 to 100 calories) to the table.

Small fries surprise: At 25 McDonald's and Burger King restaurants, the small fries were decidedly big -- anywhere from 28 percent to 130 percent extra, up to 300 calories more.

Bulked-up burrito: Taco Bell's Chicken Fiesta burrito should check in at 6.5 ounces and 370 calories, but most of the samples weighed at least 20 percent more -- and one was a whopping 72 percent heavier.

Bottom line: The extra food may seem to be free, but your hips pay the price!
