Can I Add Fiber To Get The Points Down?

    List of Ingredients

Frist of all, Are you going to add fiber because you need the extra fiber? If yes, Then go ahead if that is the only way you can get your extra fiber in.

The WW program - including the 8 healthy guielines - is set up so that you eat a balanced diet of WHOLE FOODS. You get complete nutrition from whole foods, not from, say, adding fibercon to soft-serve ice cream. The fiber benefit of the point system is there to get you to eat whole grains, fruits, veggies.

The program overall is based on CALORIC REDUCTION. If you follow the program as written, eating 5 - 9 servings of fruits and veggies, and eating mostly whole grains, you will naturally eat the same volume of food you ate before, but you will eat fewer calories, because the foods you eat are not calorically dense.

By adding fiber to a non-fiberous food, you are upsetting that system, and you will take in more calories than you otherwise would, by reducing your point intake so you can eat more points.

There is some reasons why Weight Watchers put the fiber cap of 4 into the program, In the 123 program "many years ago". which had a fiber cap of 10. People were putting fiber supplements on everything to get the points down. Then complain about not losing.
Also there is alot more higher fiber foods available now than before.

If you are going to add fiber just to lower the points. Who are you really cheating? the system or yourself?

You have to remember the program only works if you work the program, If you're going to do the program half-way, you're going to see half-way results.

Now you're probably thinking why is Weight Watchers and other companies adding fiber to their products to get the points down, Like adding fiber to their yogurt, which we know there is no fiber in dairy products. The companies are not doing it to get the points down. Most companies don't know what the point system is. They are adding fiber to their products to improve storage, stability and enhance the flavor and texture of their products,
Like adding fiber to yogurt is to metalolized independently of insulin, which helps control blood sugar. Which makes it suitable for diabetics.

I'm not saying that all companies are doing this. Some are adding fiber it get in on the "net carb" bandwagon, Why not. They want some of that money also.

With Weight Watchers points, they use the points formula with total fiber, Now which fiber is which? i don't know, but let the companies play with the fiber, not you.

The problem about adding fiber to get the points down. For some of us, Adding fiber means less points, less points mean more food, more food mean volume. Isn't that how some of us got big, Because of volume eating?

Note: this is just my opinion on addding fiber just to get the points down. You do what you like. But remember, It's your weight loss you're tring to achieve. And if you do decide to add fiber. And when the weight loss slows down or stops, (plateau). And you wonder why, That would be the frsit place to look.
