Barbecued Spoonburgers

2 tablespoons shortening
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup diced celery
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup catsup
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup water
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 can (3oz) tomato paste
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
Brown ground beef in hot shortening in a skillet, discard excess
fat. Put all ingredients in slow cooker, stir thoroghly. Cover and
cook on low 6-8 hours (or high 3-4 hours). Spoon into split, warmed
hamburger buns or serve over mashed potatoes or rice. Makes 8-10
servings.
