Chicken'n'Dumplings

Put chicken in pot, cover with water. Salt. Cook high, 3-4 hours.
Drain off every bit of fat possible.
Add a few veggies of choice, and season to taste. Cook an additional
hour or two. During the last hour, add dumplings.
Dumpling dough:
3/4 cup flour
3 tablespoon crisco or lard or butter
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1T. baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Mix dry ingredients. Mix in shortening. When blended, add remaining
ingredients. Dough should be very stiff, just workable.
Drop dough into broth by heaping tablespoonfuls. Cook dumplings
for about 1/2 hour.
