Whole Chicken in a Crock Pot
Source of Recipe
www
1 whole frying chicken
1 can beer
chicken broth to cover.
sliced onion to taste
chopped celery to taste
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon rosemary
This recipe calls for a whole frying chicken, rinsed well in cool
water, patted dry with the giblets removed. Place in your crock
pot and add one can of beer and chicken broth to cover. Also put
in some sliced onion and chopped celery (individual preference
here). I also put some onion and celery directly into the cavity.
Add to the broth one teaspoon of basil and one teaspoon of rosemary.
Set on low setting, cover and allow to simmer for 6 to eight hours.
At the end of the cooking time the meat is very tender, almost
falling off the bone, and I serve with rice and a salad. Good
dinner on those nights when you have more activities then time to
cook.
The broth can be put through a strainer and reused as a base for
other recipes.
