    Amish Vanilla Pie

    1/4 c granulated sugar
    1/4 c brown sugar
    1/2 c molasses or light corn syrup
    1 c water
    1 egg, well beaten
    1 tb flour
    1 ts vanilla
    9" unbaked pie shell

    1 c flour
    1/2 ts baking powder
    1/2 ts baking soda
    1/2 c brown sugar
    1/4 c lard, butter, margarine or vegetable shortening

    Combine the sugar,s molasses, water, egg and flour in a saucepan.
    Bring to a boil and continue boiling until thickened. Allow to cool
    and stir in vanilla. Pour into unbaked shell.

    Melt shortening. Stir in dry ingredients. Crumble mixture over pie
    shell. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 50 to 60 minutes.
