"The Ultimate Cake"
List of Ingredients
- 2c. sugar
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2c. shortening
- 5 egg yolks
- 1t. vanilla
- 1c. buttermilk
- 2c. flour
- 1t. baking powder
- 1/2t. salt
- 5 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 2c. flaked coconut
- 1c. chopped nuts
- Icing:
- 1(8 oz) pkg. cream cheese
- 1 stick butter
- 1 box powdered sugar
- 1t. vanilla
Instructions
- Cake: Mix together well the sugar, butter, shortening, and egg yolks; add vanilla and buttermilk.
- Mix well and add flour, baking powder and salt. Fold in beaten egg whites, coconut and nuts.
- Bake in three 8 inch layer pans for 35 mins. at 350.
- Icing: Mix ingredients together well and spread on cooled cake.
