Working Women's Chili

2-tbsp bacon drippings
2-cups onions, chopped
2-medium green peppers
1/4-pound mushrooms, sliced thin
1-pound ground round
1/2-pound bulk sausage
4-tbsp chili powder
1/2-tsp salt
1/8-tsp black pepper
1-tsp cumin
1-tsp oregano
1-can (28 ounces) tomatoes
1/2-cup cold water
Heat bacon drippings in large frypan (or electric frying pan). Add onions. Seed and chop green peppers, add with onions. Stir fry until tender. Add mushrooms, stirring until tender. Add beef and sausage and stir fry, breaking the meat with a spoon. Cook until meat is no longer pink. Stir in chili powder, salt, pepper, cumin and oregano. Chop tomatoes into small pieces and add to mixture. Add water, stir, cover and simmer 25 minutes. Uncover, stir and simmer 15 minutes more (until slightly thickened). Serves 6.
