    Ingredients

    8 Pita breads
    Chopped cooked chicken
    or turkey
    Vegetable oil
    Salt
    Canned chopped green
    chilies (optional)
    Lettuce
    Onion (optional)
    Shredded Monterey Jack,
    Mozzarella or Cheddar
    cheese
    Sour cream
    Taco sauce

    Utensils

    Cutting board
    Sharp knife
    Dry measuring cups
    Measuring spoons
    Microwavable 1 1/2 quart
    bowl with lid
    Can opener
    Strainer
    Long-handled spoon
    Potholders


    Directions

    1. Ask an adult to help you carefully split 8 pita breads by
    cutting each halfway around the edge with a knife to form
    a pocket.
    2. Mix 2 cups chopped cooked chicken or turkey, 1 tablespoon
    vegetable oil and 1/2 teaspoon salt together in the bowl.
    3. Put the strainer in the sink and drain 1 can (4 ounces)
    chopped green chilies.
    4. Stir the drained chilies into the mixture. Cover with the
    lid and microwave on high (100%) 2 minutes. Stir.
    Re-cover and microwave 2 to 3 minutes or until the
    chicken is hot. Using potholders, remove the bowl from
    the microwave. Carefully remove the lid, lifting frrom the
    side away from you to let the steam out.
    5. Wash and shred (or cut thinly using a sharp knife) 1 small
    head of lettuce, enough to equal 1 cup.
    6. Peel and chop 1 small onion.
    7. Spoon about 1/4 cup of the chicken mixture into each pita
    bread. top each with 1/4 cup shredded cheese, shredded
    lettuce and about 2 tablespoons chopped onion.
    8. Serve with 1/2 cup sour cream and 1/2 cup taco sauce.
