Footwashing Sunday
Source of Recipe
Hillybilly Cookin II
Folks in our neck of the woods always had a footwashing the fourth Sunday in May. There was a grove near a spring where horses could stand in the shade and fight flies. Forginst the church graveyard was a grassy plot where women folks would spread their table cloths on the grass after the mornin preachin. Talk about good things to eat! Everybody was welcome to fried chicken, real ham, vegetables in season. Add the pies and cakes! After dinner, there'd be singing, with a leader giving the words and the crowd following. Somehow there'd be a shortage of young uns. What with courtin and a swimmin hole, there was a lot to be interested in.
