1. Mr. Beckman's water mill was two miles up the holler. When we run out of meal Grandpaw'd git a bushel of shelled corn, put it behind the saddle and ride to the mill. Mr. Beckman'd charge a half peck of corn toll.
   
2. When I got older, they'd let me ride Lucy to the mill. I'd get on an upling block to make the saddle and Lucy would go at an even walk. It was lots of fun, watching the mill wheels turn.
