Basic Red Sauce

1 c. finely chopped onion
1/3 c. cooking oil
1 1/2 c. ketchup
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. lemon juice
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
2 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
4 drops Tabasco
Cook onions in oil until soft and golden.
Add remaining ingredients.
Simmer 15 minutes.
Store in refrigerator or freezer.
Makes 1 quart
