Hamburger Stew

1/2 to 1 lb ground beef
onions, cut into chunks
2 stalks celery, sliced
2 or 3, peeled and sliced carrots
5 to 8 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
small can green peas
salt and pepper to taste
Brown the ground beef well in a large pot. Remove and drain,
discard drippings. Return browned beef to pot, add water, salt
and pepper, and bring to a boil. While this heats, cut onion &
celery and add to pot. Keep the water hot enough so that it boils
while other ingredients are being added. Add additional water as
necessary to keep ingredients covered. Add the carrots and boil
while you peel & cut the potatoes. Add potatoes and green peas;
simmer, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are done. Serve
with saltine crackers, cornbread or biscuits.
