    Spicy ‘N’ Sweet Ribs

    4 pounds pork loin back ribs or meaty pork spareribs, cut into serving-size pieces
    1 tablespoon brown sugar
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
    ½ teaspoon onion powder
    1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
    ¼ teaspoon dry mustard
    ½ cup apple juice
    ¼ cup hoisin sauce
    2 tablespoons dry sherry or apple juice
    2 to 3 teaspoons grated gingerroot

    In a small mixing bowl combine brown sugar, onion powder, salt, dry mustard, turmeric and red pepper; rub spice mixture over ribs. Cover and refrigerate ribs for 2 to 3 hours.

    Meanwhile, for sauce, in a saucepan combine apple juice, hoisin sauce, sherry or apple juice and gingerroot; bring to boiling. Remove from heat; set aside.

    Place ribs on grill rack over medium heat. Cover and grill for 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours or until ribs are tender and no longer pink. Brush generously with sauce the last 15 minutes of grilling.

    Makes six servings.
