2 jiggers Kentucky Bourbon whiskey
1 jigger minted simple syrup
cutting of fresh mint, rinsed
Fill 16 oz sterling silver julep cup with cracked ice. Pour Bourbon over ice and then syrup. Stir with a swizzle stick until the glass begins to frost. Add a sprig of mint and a straw cut to protrude just above the rim of the cup and serve.
Minted simple syrup:
1 cup cold water
2 cups sugar
6 stalks of mint
Bring water and sugar to a boil. Boil, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Cool to room temperature and add leaves from mint, bruising the leaves very gently as you stir. Cover and allow to stand overnight. Strain through cheesecloth. (Make the night before serving juleps.)
