    2 cups boiling water
    2 cups natural bran
    1-1/2 cups white sugar
    1-1/2 cups brown sugar
    1 cup oil
    4 eggs, beaten
    1 quart (4 cups) buttermilk
    5 cups flour
    1 Tablespoon salt
    3 Tablespoons baking soda
    4 cups bran flakes
    2-1/2 cups raisins or chopped dates
    Walnuts
    1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

    Pour water over bran; cool. Cream oil, sugar, and eggs. Add buttermilk and bran. Sift flour, salt, and baking soda; add to mixture. Add flakes and remaining ingredients. Mix well.

    Do not bake the first day. Batter will keep 6 weeks in refrigerator. Store covered. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
