    Buttery Rolls

    1/2 cup shortening
    1/3 cup granulated sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup boiling water
    1 package dry yeast
    1/4 cup lukewarm water
    1 egg, beaten
    4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup ice water

    Recipe



    Cream shortening, sugar, and salt; add boiling water. Combine yeast with lukewarm water; beat in egg and add to shortening mixture. Add sifted flour and ice water alternately to liquid, mixing well. Cover and set in a warm place to rise until double, about 11/2–2 hours. Shape as desired into Parker House, Clover Leaf, buns, or other rolls. Place on greased baking sheet. Let rise until double. Bake at 400 degrees for 10–12 minutes. Makes 31/2–4 dozen.
