Kahlua Date Nut Bread

1 Cup Pitted Dates, chopped
1/2 Cup Kahlua (or other coffee flavored liqueur)
1/2 Cup Warm Water
1 Tsp. Grated Orange Peel
2/3 Cup Brown Sugar, packed
1/4 Cup Butter, softened
1 Large Egg
1/2 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp. Salt
2/3 Cup Pecans, chopped
Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9" or 10" loaf pan. Combine dates, Kahlua, warm water and orange peel. Let stand while preparing batter. Beat brown sugar and butter. Beat in egg. Add vanilla. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with date mixture. Stir in pecans. Turn into prepared loaf pan. Let stand five minutes, then bake, below oven center in a 350 degree oven for one hour or just until bread tests done in center. Let cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn out on wire rack to cool. Eat immediately or wrap and freeze up to three months.
If you like putting cream cheese on sweet breads, you might like to try this: Beat 8 oz. cream cheese with 1/4 Cup butter and 1 tablespoon Kahlua.
