Breadcrumb Pancakes

1 1/2 cups fine, soft, white breadcrumbs
1 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 large eggs
1/2 cup all purpose flour

The night before scald the milk with the butter and mix with the breadcrumbs. Cover and let stand overnight.
The next morning sift the flour and baking powder together and lightly beat the eggs. Stir into the breadcrumb mixture.
Drop by quarter cup measure on a well buttered hot griddle. Turn when small bubbles appear on surface. I like to sprinkle on a few raspberries or blueberries when I put the batter on the griddle.
Serve with hot, buttered maple syrup.
