Crunchy Chocolate Toffee

1 cup butter
11/3 cups sugar
1 Tbsp. corn syrup
2 Tbsp. water
11/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups chocolate chips or butterscotch chips
1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped
Line a 13x9x2-inch baking dish with foil and lightly grease it with a little butter. In a 2-quart microwave-safe glass bowl combine the butter, sugar, corn syrup and water. Microwave on high 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown, stirring twice during cooking. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture into the prepared dish. Sprinkle with chocolate or butterscotch chips and let rest for 2 minutes. Spread chocolate evenly and sprinkle it with chopped nuts, pressing them into chocolate. Chill mixture until it is cool. Break into uneven pieces and put in a decorative tin or serve on a platter.
