    1 pound ground beef
    1/3 C. chopped onion
    1 (10 oz) can tomato soup
    1 C. frozen peas plus 1/2 C. water, (if using canned peas, use 8 oz can undrained)*
    1 t. salt
    1/8 t. pepper
    1 C. flour
    1 1/2 t. b. powder
    1/4 t. salt
    2 T. shortening
    1/3 C. plus 1 T. milk
    8 3/4" cubes american or cheddar cheese

    Recipe



    Preheat oven 425º
    Brown ground beef & onions in skillet. Drain fat
    Add tomato soup, peas, salt and pepper
    Pour into 1-1/2 qt. casserole
    Sift together flour and baking powder with salt
    Cut in shortening until particles are fine
    Add milk; stir until dough clings together
    Knead on lightly floured surface.
    Divide into 8 pieces. Mold dough around cheese square
    Place on casserole
    Bake for 25-30 minutes, until deep golden brown
    Serves 4

    *Note: other veggies can be substituted to suit taste
