Faith Hill's Sour Cream Apple Bars

2 cups All Purpose or Unbleached Flour
2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 cup chopped nuts
1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup dairy sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 cups finely chopped peeled apples
Recipe
Heat oven to 350 F. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and margarine; beat at low speed until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Press 2 3/4 cups of crumb mixture in bottom of ungreased 13x9-inch pan. To remaining mixture, add cinnamon, baking soda, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg; mix well. Stir in apples. Spoon evenly over base.
Bake at 350 F. for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut into bars. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
