    French Buttercream Cookies

    1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 cup butter (I cheat and use margarine)
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    Combine on low speed for 1 minute.


    2 1/4 cups flour
    Add gradually, blend at low speed.
    Chill dough about 15-30 minutes before shaping.
    Shape into 3/4" balls, place on greased cookie sheet about 2" apart. Flatten with fork. Sprinkle with colored sugars.
    Bake at 350º for 5-8 minutes.
    Let stand on cookie sheet about 1 minute.

    Makes about 4 dozen
