Apple Coconut Nut Cake

2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1-1/4 cups cooking oil
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup orange juice
3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup peeled and chopped raw apple
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
Recipe
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix all ingredients except apple, coconut and nuts in order given. Using a spoon, mix in apples, coconut and nuts. Turn batter into a greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1-1/2 hours. When cake is almost done prepare the sauce.
Sauce
6 tbsp. butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
Melt butter and stir in sugar, baking soda and buttermilk. Bring to a boil. Pour sauce over hot cake while still in pan. Wait 1 hour before turning cake out of pan.
