    1-1/2 cups butter-flavored vegetable shortening
    2 cups sugar
    4 eggs
    2-1/2 cups sifted cake flour
    1/2 cup self-rising flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 cup milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla butter-and-nut flavoring or butter flavoring

    Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed of an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

    Combine flour and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Stir in flavoring.

    Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1-1/2 hours or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan, and cool completely on a wire rack.
