    1/3 cup margarine or butter softened
    1 (3-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
    1 cup All Purpose or Unbleached Flour
    2/3 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    1/4 cup milk
    1 egg

    TOPPING
    1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    3 tablespoons flour
    1 tablespoon margarine or butter

    Heat oven to 350°F. Generously grease and flour bottom only of 8-inch square pan. In large bowl, beat 1/3 cup margarine and cream cheese until light and fluffy. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour and remaining cake ingredients to cream cheese mixture. Blend at low speed until well combined; beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Spread batter evenly in greased and floured pan.

    In small bowl, combine all topping ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle topping evenly over batter. Bake at 350°F. for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm or cool.
    6 to 8 servings.
