Chocolate Chip Date Cake

1 c dates
1 c hot water
1 tsp baking soda
1 c sugar
1 c shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 c flour
2 rounded tbsp cocoa
1 small bag chocolate chips
1/2 c chopped nuts (walnuts prefered)


Recipe



Cut up dates and add hot water and baking soda and let cool.
Cream together sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla.
Mix together flour and cocoa.
Alternate the cooled date mixture with the creamed ingredients with the dry ingredients.
Pour into a greased and floured pan.
Put chocolate chips and nuts on top.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes
