Whole Wheat Date Cake

1 (8 oz) pkg pitted dates, chopped (2 cups)
1 cup water
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups enriched flour
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
4 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp vanilla
Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a bundt pan or a 10-inch tube pan and dust the inside with granulated sugar.
In small saucepan, cook dates with the water and butter over low heat until caramel colored and thickened. Refrigerate to cool completely.
Stir dry ingredients together and add to cooled date mixture.
Add eggs and vanilla, stirring until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 50-55 minutes, or until it tests done. Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes; remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
