    1/2 cup shortening
    1-1/2 cups sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 eggs
    2-1/4 cups sifted cake flour
    2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk

    Recipe



    Cream shortening and sugar until light, 12 to 15 minutes at medium-high speed on electric mixer. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

    Sift flour, baking powder and 1 teaspoon salt together; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition.

    Bake in greased and floured 9 x 1-1/2-inch round pans at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely and frost, if desired.
