    1/4 pound butter
    1-1/2 cups sugar
    3 eggs
    4 squares cooking chocolate
    1-3/4 cups pastry flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 cup milk

    GARNISH

    1 cup heavy cream
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 square cooking chocolate
    1 teaspoon vanilla

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

    Cream 1/4 pound butter with 1-1/2 cups sugar until fluffy. Beat in 3 eggs.

    Set 4 squares cooking chocolate in the oven to soften. Cool before using. Add to batter mixture. Beat well.

    Sift 1-3/4 cups pastry flour. Measure and resift twice with 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add alternately to the batter with 1 cup milk.

    Bake in a square baking pan for 20 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Remove. Cool.

    When the cake is cool, split in half and ice, inside and out, with 1 cup heavy cream whipped stiff, sweetened with 1/2 cup sugar and flavored with 1 square melted cooking chocoate and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

    Makes 8 servings
